JKLF pays tributes to Maqbool Bhat

Feb 01, 2007:

The London based unit of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has paid tributes to Maqbool Bhat, who was hanged by India on 11 Feb 1984.

The group has decided to launch a series of programmes like holding peaceful public demonstrations, press conferences and meetings all around UK to pay tribute to Maqbool Bhat, a JKLF spokesman said in a statement from London.

The group will organize a seminar in London on 25th of Febuary 2007, in which JKLF and other community leaders will be invited to discuss the Kashmir issue. There will be live addresses from JKLF leaders from both sides of the Line of Control (ceasefire line in Kashmir) including its newly elected Chairman Sardar Saghir Khan Advocate and Supreme Head Amanullah Khan, the spokesman added.

Paying tributes to Maqbool Bhat, General Secretary JKLF UK Zone Mahmood Hussain, said that Maqbool stood “against the brutality of the foreign occupation and laid down his life for freedom and justice. In the same spirit Kashmiris are still giving sacrifices for their sacred cause of right of self-determination.”

“Kashmiris throughout the world will be commemorating the 23rd anniversary of this great national hero. JKLF pledges that the mission of Maqbool Butt will continue till the Kashmiris achieve their right of self-determination. It was foolish of India to even think that by hanging Maqbool Butt, the freedom struggle would die down. On the contrary every single Kashmiri is willing to sacrifice and follow the steps of this great Kashmiri leader.” Hussain added

Hussain further said that the only way to bring peace and prosperity to the subcontinent is to solve Kashmir issue without hurting the national egos of both India and Pakistan, without damaging their legitimate national interests and on the basis of Kashmiris freely expressed wishes and aspirations and that can be done only by reuniting the divided Jammu Kashmir state and making it a fully independent country with a democratic federal and secular system of government and having friendly relations with both India and Pakistan.
