Kashmiris proud of liberation struggle: Rehmani

Srinagar
Jan 23, 2007:

The Muzaffarabad based faction of All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC-AJK) has criticised Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for his statement about calling an end to armed struggle in Kashmir.

Chairman JK People’s Freedom League and Convenor APHC-AJK Muhammad Farooq Rehmani today urged people of Jammu and Kashmir to get united under the banner of right of self determination as defined in the UN Charter and it’s resolutions on Kashmir.

In a statement issued from Muzaffarabad today Rehmani said Kashmiris would not accept 'any misinterpretation of their long historical struggle for liberation and right of self determination.'

He said that every Kashmiri was 'proud of the liberation struggle whether it was political or armed, and no one was apologetic or felt shy of it.'

Mirwaiz Umar who is leading a delegation of moderate Hurriyat leaders to Pakistan this week urged militants to support dialogue process saying that it was time for calling an end to arms struggle in Kashmir.

The statement evoked sharp reactions from militant groups as well as from the rival faction of Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani.

Rehmani further said that no group or leader should take Kashmiris for granted.

"No patriot would ever think of bailing out Indian troops, who were alone responsible for genocide, rape and other heinous crimes and for spreading graveyards in the length and breath of the wounded state." Rehmani further said.

“We believe in a peaceful political struggle. But it was really Indian illegal occupation, failure of political promises and motivation by historical forces and personalities that led to a massive political and armed struggle for freedom to gain centrality in the world debate of peace and conflict resolution,” he added.
