Downtown Srinagar erupts with pro militant slogans
Srinagar-:Matching the Independence seeking Jammu Kashmir liberation Front’s (JKLF) foray into downtown and even improving it, the pro Pakistan Democratic Political Movement (DPM) has also opened its office in the interiors of Srinagar city, with an open demonstration of support to armed groups fighting for Kashmir’s accession with Pakistan.
DPM chairman Firdous Shah today inaugurated the office amidst an euphoric crowd of about five hundred people, who filled the air with pro Pakistan and pro militant organizations. Jeevay Jeevay Pakistan (long live Pakistan) and Aiwa Aiwa Lashker I Toiba (Here comes Lashker I Toiba) were among the few slogans regularly raised in the procession. It is pertinent to mention that it is very rare in Kashmir when people raise the pro armed group slogans.
Earlier on November 26, pro independence JKLF inaugurated its office in downtown Srinagar at Bohrikadal locality, just half a kilometer away from DPM's office. The inauguration ceremony took an ugly turn when pro Pakistan group clashed with JKLF supporters on that occasion. No such incident happened today.
DPM fights for the state’s accession with Pakistan on the basis of majority muslim population. Incidentally the venue is in the same area where the first political killing of Kashmir took place during the current phase of insurgency. On August 7, 1989 militants killed block president of National Conference in Shamaswari, Srinagar.
Prior to inauguration Shah lead the crowd in a procession from historic Khanqah I Muallah to Shamaswari, where he delivered a brief speech. Shah reiterated his party’s commitment to struggle till their cherished goal of accession with Pakistan does not come true. He also asked for the tripartite talks between India, Pakistan and Kashmiri leaders, and without which, according to him any solution to Kashmir problem will be temporary. Lashing out at Indian army for its role in Kashmir, he said that despite promises made by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh of India, their troops are engaged in the genocide of Kashmiris, by way of mass Human Rights violations. He said that if India is serious about solving the Kashmir problem, it should first release all the prisoners, withdraw the troops from Kashmir and stop human rights violations.
