New Delhi should look east, not west
by Faisul Yaseen
Jammu
Asking New Delhi to shed it 'look west' approach a political scientist from New Delhi said here today that India should instead look east for developing its economy and
take a leaf out of the strong Chinese economy.
T G Suresh is an Assistant Professor at the
Centre for Political Studies (CPS) Jawaharlal Nehru University, a centre known for its leftist leanings.
While delivering a lecture on 'Interpreting China's Development Experience', here
Suresh said that New Delhi should take a leaf out of Beijing's book
and develop its economy not by aping the West but by keeping its
historical traditions in mind.
On Wednesday while the chinese premier was in New Delhi the two countries agreed on the need for sending an
important political message to the world that the two were
true friends and partners and were committed in pursuing a long-term friendship.
Suresh said that India like China has rich historical traditions and
that China had done a commendable work in developing its economy while keeping its traditions of the glorious past alive.
