Two dozen injured during anti-Israel protests in Kashmir
Srinagar, January 16, 2009:
Over two dozen Kashmiri Muslims were injured on Friday when Indian Police used force to quell anti-Israel protests in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir.
The people were staging protest demonstrations against Israel for its continuous offensive over the past three weeks in which over 1000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza.
Carrying placards 'Down with Israel', 'Wake up UN' and 'Muslims unite', the protestors raised anti-Israel slogans and burnt Israeli flags.
The protestors also urged the international community especially the United Nations Organisation (UNO) to intervene and stop Israeli troops from committing genocide of Palestinian Muslims.
"For killing innocent Palestinians, Israeli army generals should be punished in a war tribunal," said a protestor Mushtaq Ahmed.
Indian police and Indian paramilitary troops used force to stop the protestors from marching on streets leaving over two dozen injured.
Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Vice Chairman of separatist Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front who lead one of the protest marches said the international community was maintaining "criminal silence" against the killing of Palestinian Muslims.
One of the protestors who did not wish to be named fearing reprisal by Indian troops said:
"When America was attacked, the entire world expressed outrage, when London bombings took place condemnations poured from everywhere, when Mumbai attacks occurred, international community lost no time to term it as a massacre. When Kashmiris are killed by Indian troops and now when innocent Palestinians are being brutally exterminated the world community is watching as a mute spectator."
