India, Pak won't engage in war: Former Kashmir CM
Srinagar, January 13, 2009:
Former chief minister of Indian administered Kashmir Farooq Abdullah here Tuesday ruled out any possibility of a war between India and Pakistan.
The nuclear neighbours India and Pakistan will resolve their issues through dialogue, Abdullah said addressing media person soon after taking over as president of National Conference, the party which heads the coalition government in Kashmir.
Abdullah too over as the party president from his son Omar who vacated the post after taking over as the chief minister of Kashmir.
Abdullah said both the nuclear countries would form a joint mechanism to deal with the "menace of terrorism".
About the simmering tension between India and Pakistan on the Line of Control, the de facto border which divides Kashmir into Indian administered and Pakistan administered parts, Abdullah said: "There will be no war."
Abdullah said that the two countries won't engage in a war as realisation had dawned on them that the war would lead to utter destruction.
They will jointly fight jointly to eradicate the menace of terrorism and resolve all issues through dialogue, he said.
