Kashmir gets new department of culture
Srinagar, Thursday, March 01, 2008:
The government in Indian administered Kashmir has created a new ‘Department for Culture’ in the region.
The department that would be headed by an independent secretary to government will control the Directorate of Archives, Archeology and Museums, Directorate of Research, Libraries and Museums, and Toshkhana.
The Toshakhana was previously under the control of Hospitality and Protocol Department, while the other directorates were under the Department of Education.
The J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, commonly referred to as the Cultural Academy will also be brought under the Department of Culture.
All the maters related to the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages shall be dealt with by the Department of Culture for further consideration of the chief minister, an official spokesman said here Friday.
