Slight intensity quake hits Kashmir
Srinagar, Monday, February 25, 2008:
A slight intensity quake hit parts of Jammu and Kashmir Monday afternoon.
The quake measuring 3.9 on the Richter Scale was felt in many parts of Kashmir Valley including Srinagar, summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir.
Meteorological office in Srinagar said the quake with its epicenter located north of Srinagar, in Baramulla district was felt at 1255 hrs IST (1725 hrs GMT).
There were no immediate reports of any damage.
A high intensity quake measuring 7.4 on the Richter Scale with its epicenter in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan administered Kashmir shook the region on October 8, 2005 causing large scale destrcution.
Geologists say the region is located in a zone of high seismic activity.
Now it is likely to take place in March this year, The News said.
