Russian tourist among six killed in Kashmir accident
Srinagar, February 22, 2008:
At least six people including a Russian tourist were killed and four others wounded in a road accident on a main highway in Indian administered Kashmir Thursday.
Reports quoting officials said that six people were killed on the spot when a taxi rolled down a gorge after colliding with a truck on the Srinagar Jammu highway near Chennani.
Four others were injured it the incident.
Rescuers fished out the bodies from a stream running through the gorge and ferried the injured to a hospital.
Reports said that Galina alias Ulanova of Mockba Russia bearing passport number 60N4925257 was among the dead.
Unconfirmed reports said that some Indian troops were also among the victims.
The 300-km highway connecting the summer and winter capitals of Indian administered Kashmir runs though a mountainous terrain and is known to be accident prone.
It is only operational surface link to Kashmir valley.
