Kashmir cricketer selected for North Zone
Srinagar, February 08, 2008:
Young Kashmir pacer Samiullah Beigh has been selected for the Indian North Zone cricket squad.
Beigh, 26, will represent the North Zone in the Duleep Trophy match against East Zone to be played in Rajkot from February 11 to 14.
All the players were picked up by the zonal selection committee in a meeting held in New Delhi under the chairmanship of Bhupinder Singh (Senior) from north Indian state of Punjab.
Beigh an engineering graduate from the downtown locality of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir, is known for his tear away pace and swing bowling.
Born on April 15, 1981, he grew playing cricket in the narrow lanes of his locality amid the insurgency that broke out against Indian rule in the region in late eighties.
Beigh who bats right handed and bowls right hand medium pace has played 14 first class matches scored 198 runs including a 50, taken 33 wickets and 10 catches.
In seven List A matches he has scored 39 runs and taken 4 wickets.
In the four matches of shortest version of the game – Twenty20, Beigh has taken 5 wickets and scored 7 runs without being out even once.
Beigh made his first class debut in 2003-04.
