Srinagar
Aug 15, 2006:
Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir Gopal Sharma has strongly denied the 'fidayeen rumour' at the Independence Day celebrations in Srinagar.
Sharma termed the rumour as an abortive attempt to eclipse unprecedented public participation in peaceful celebration of Independence Day in the entire state.
He said the rumour of a security problem at the Independence Day function was nothing but a figment of imagination spread by frustrated elements feeling uncomfortable with the historic and peaceful public presence in the function.
“They miserably failed in their design”, he said.
Sharma clarified that because of bad weather and slippery ground, the last item of Motorcycle display had to be cancelled to prevent any accident during the display which has been construed by some media person as a security problem.
Sharma said that the Independence Day functions throughout the state concluded peacefully
