New video suggests Bhutto shot
Srinagar, December 31, 2007:
Contradicting the Pakistan government's claim on how Pakistan leader Benazir Bhutto died, a video of Bhutto's final moments shown on UK's Channel 4 news suggests she died of bullet wounds.
The Pakistan government had ruled out Bhutto's death from bullet and shrapnel injuries, and claimed that she died after crashing with the lever on the sunroof of his vehicle.
A video shown on UK's Channel 4 news shows a suspected suicide bomber, wearing white robes and an alleged gunman wearing a dark jacket and sunglasses standing beside each other among a crowd of Benazir supporters.
It then shows the gunman firing at Benazir as she waved to supporters following a campaign rally in Rawalpindi.
She seems to be falling to one side with the impact of the bullet, her hair and shawl appear to be raised up, before the bomb is set off.
The images suggest that Benazir died at the hands of a shooter before a bomb was detonated, killing 20 more people.
Benazir's Pakistan Peoples Party had earlier challenged the government's version of the death, and alleged a cover up.
Bhutto close aide Sherry Rehman had said that she saw bullet wound on Benazir's neck.
The new pictures and eyewitness accounts, contradicting the government's claims that Benazir's death was the result of an accident have built up pressure on President Pervez Musharraf and his party to come clean on the issue.
