China supports US war on Iraq : David Barsamian
Faisul Yaseen
Srinagar, December 30, 2007:
Alternative Radio founder and coauthor of 'Confronting Empire' David Barsamian who was in Indian administered Kashmir recently has said that China was tacitly supporting the American war on Iraq.
"China is supporting the US war on Iraq. They're buying American treasury notes thereby allowing the US to continue its war on Iraq," Barsamian told reporters here.
Iraq Body Count (IBC), an ongoing human security project which maintains and updates the world's largest public database of violent civilian deaths during and since the 2003 US invasion on Iraq, has documented 86,551 civilian deaths in Iraq since 2003 when US launched a full-fledged war in the country. Some 230,000 US troops are presently serving in and around Iraq.
China and USA are considered to be bitter rivals and the foreign policies of the two countries don't make any parallels.
Barsamian said that while USA views China as a dangerous parallel power centre, China was acting as an ally for the US in its war on Iraq.
He said US thinks China is spreading it bases in Asia and East Asia and added that the USA might use Kashmir as its base to keep the Chinese network in check.
"But don't be mistaken by China," Barsamian said.
"Army controls many industries in China. While China takes name of communism it seems to be copying west in their own Chinese ways.
"All imperialistic powers are same. They take a stand against anything if it suits their interests," he added.
