Kashmir gunfights claim 12
Srinagar, October 03, 2007:
Police said that a group of nine militants and their guide crossed over into Indian administered Kashmir at 0500 hours on Tuesday from across the ceasefire line, the de facto border, which divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
The militants were taken by the guide to a house in Ringwari Tangmarg area of Baramulla district following which the guide left the place.
The troops soon cordoned the area and an encounter started at 0800 hours Tuesday which ended at 1400 hours Wednesday after the killing of nine suspected militants.
Two army officers were also killed in the gun battle.
Nine houses, including the one used by the suspected militants were badly damaged in the encounter.
Police also claimed to kill another militant in Litter Pulwama in south Kashmir this morning.
Police said Fayaz Mir of Panpora Sangam Bijbehara alias Junaidul Islam alias Amir Fayaz, at Litter, Pulwama was killed n ajoint operation by the army and police.
