Grenade attack in Kashmir injures ten

Srinagar
July 31, 2006:

At least 10 people including six labourers from Uttar Pradesh and a woman were injured when suspected militants lobbed a grenade on their vehicle today. Three locals were also injured in the attack.

The Vehicle, a Baltal bound local bus was standing at the bus stand in Batmaloo area of Srinagar when the attack took place, police sources said.

Baltal is a base camp for Amarnath cave shrine.

The labourers worked in a brick kiln in Sholipora area of Budgam district, Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar, S A Mujtaba, said and added that it was unclear if the labourers were going for work or piligrimage.

Suspected militants have killed 14 tourists and injured many others in similar attacks on tourists and pilgrims this year.

On July 22 police claimed it has arrested the mastermind behind the serial grenade attacks on tourists in Srinagar.
