'Kashmiri professionals can help in reconstruction of PaK'

Shahnawaz Khan

The Hague, June 09, 2007:

Raja Zulqarnain

Engineers from Indian administered Kashmir can help in the post quake reconstruction in Pakistan administered Kashmir, President of Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) Raja Zulqarnain has said.

Commenting on the offer of jobs made earlier by PaK Prime Minister Sardar Attique to professionals from Indian administered Kashmir Zulqaranain while talking with Kashmir Newz said that there were enough jobs available for them in Pakistan administered Kashmir.

"As far as engineers go, we have many jobs at the moment and if we get any people who are interested, and who can manage to come here, we can create as many jobs, because in the aftermath of the earthquake we have to reconstruct this whole area." Zulqaranain told Kashmir Newz.

He added that a couple from Indian administered Kashmir, has already been provided job in Pakistan administered Kashmir.

"We are facing a shortage of technical people. We need engineers, we need architects and we need people in the health sector," Zulqaranain said adding that people from Indian administered Kashmir had equal claims on jobs across the ceasefire line.

"We are offering these jobs only to our own people. They have as much right to take up jobs here as people in this part of Kashmir."

Meanwhile tens of thousands of professionals particularly doctors and engineers continue to remain jobless in the Indian administered part of Kashmir. Its economy has been wrecked by the past 18 years of insurgency.

The state has one of the highest unemplyment rates in India and economic stagnation continues worsen the situation.

Till date there has been no outright denial or acceptance of this job offer by the officials in IaK.

Reports suggest that many unemployed professionals in IaK are planning to shift to PaK to avail this opportunity in the near future.
