Ladakh festival to begin on June 12

The annual Singhey-Khababs Spring Festival of Ladakh, also known as Sindhu Darshan, will commence on June 12, and remain open for three days, officials disclosed at an interactive session "Destination Ladakh" held jointly by the Department of Tourism and Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh, here today.
The festival is expected to boost Ladakh tourism, a favorite destination of trekkers located in the lap of Himalayas in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Tsering Dorjee disclosed that at present, there were 7,700 beds in about 100 hotels and 270 guesthouses available in Leh. He described Ladakh as a unique largest area of Jammu and Kashmir with a variety tourist places.
Dorjee said 13 Monastic festivals would be held in Leh besides three in Zanaskar and one at Nubra with Hemis festival on June 25 and 26.
Director Tourism, Kashmir, Farooq Shah described Jammu and Kashmir as an ideal tourist destination. He detailed the steps being taken by the department for the promotion of Ladakh tourism.
Noted theatre personality, Tom Alter who was also present in the session described at length his visits and stays at Kashmir. He said the sweet memories of the beautiful place were so deep rooted in him that he felt indebted to the promotion of the place. He informed that his troupe would be performing at the inaugural function of the Singhey Khebab festival.
