JKLF to resume Kashmir Freedom March

Srinagar, May 07, 2007 (Kashmir Newz Desk) :

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) will be launching its planned march, 'Safar i Azadi (Journey for Freedom)' from May 20 from south Kashmir, JKLF chairman Yasin Malik announced today.

The group earlier planned to begin the march on May 6, but had to be postponned after the JKLF chairman Yasin Malik was arrested along with his associates from Anantnag, in south Kashmir a day prior to the scheduled launch. Yasin was later released on the same day

Talking to reporters at the JKLF heaquarter today, Malik said that, if stopped again by the police, the group would go on an indefinete hunger strike.

"We will restart our safar (journey) again on 20th may 2007 from the same venue as annonced before, and if we are again stopped we will go for an indefinite hunger strike from 26th of May," Malik said.

"We have supported the peace process but always demanded that Kashmiris, the owners of Kashmir, must be included in the decision making process," he said.

Malik and his colleagues would start the journey from Daksum and Kokernag areas of south Kashmir and travel across the Kashmir valley, as announced by the group earlier.

The journey is part of the JKLF campaign, "Peace in South Asia: Kashmir first and Kashmiri first" meant to launch "efforts to resolve the vexed issue and seek the inclusion of the people of the state in the ongoing peace and reconciliation process. "

"We will fight for the freedom of speech and I hope we will not be stopped. Our journey is to strengthen the peace process as everyone knows that without the inclusion of Kashmiris this process will lead us no where," Malik said.
