Life in Indian administered Kashmir was paralysed for second day as people stayed indoors Saturday while as Indian President A P J Kalam is set to attend the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

Most streets in Srinagar wore a deserted look amid a shutdown call by separatists and heavy security deployments for Kalam's visit.

The shutdown call was given by Hardline faction of All Parties Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani and supported by groups like the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, and Dukhtaran-i-Millat.

Kalam arrived in Srinagar on Friday and addressed a joint session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislature at SKICC. The road stretch around the venue leading from Dalgate to Shalimar, has been closed for civilian movement, and residents said the cell phones were not working.

Kashmir High Court Bar Association, (KHBA) the body of lawyers in Kashmir has boycotted the diamond jubilee celebrations of the High Court citing the alleged human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Bar Association alleged that Indian troops were involved in human rights violations across the region. Authorities in Kashmir deny the allegations.
