Demilitarization means internal demilitarization: Kashmir CM

Jammu
Feb 14, 2007:

Commeting on the 4-point formula proposed by Pakistan President Gen. Musharraf for resoling Kashmir isssue Chief Minister of Indian administered Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad said today 'demilitarization' meant withdrawing of forces from internal security duty.

Stating that the 4-point Kashmir centric formula of Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf was debatable at a right forum and one should not draw out of proposition meanings from the words and phrases used in the formula, Azad said that for the first time it appears that Pakistan is sincere in settling the issues once for all.

Azad was winding up the discussion on peace and reconciliation developments in Jammu and Kashmir in Legislative Council here today.

Azad added that joint management means joint consultation or mechanism for trade, tourism, cultural ties, pilgrimage etc.

Similarly, by self-rule, the concept of government of people, by the people and for the people or democracy comes to mind whileas soft-borders mean cordial relations between the two countries for easy travel, trade, tourism and visits of two people.

As such, Azad said that this formula should not perturb people in any case.

“If Pakistan can putforth proposals, India is also within its right to come forward with effective proposals ”, he added.

He said, he and central government were also highly concerned about the internal demilitarization in the state. However, to translate it into reality Pakistan has to play its part by 'upholding the promise of closing training camps, stopping cross-border militancy and flow of money to propagandists', he said.

"This would help restore tranquility and peace in the state and forces would automatically return to barracks" he remarked.

Azad also halied Gen. Musharraf’s for his 'endeavour to improve bilateral relations and settle all issues amicably'.
