Protestors took to streets at many places in Indian administered Kashmir Friday chanting anti-Israel slogans and displaying placards in support of Lebanon and Palestine.
In Srinagar protestors clashed with police as latter tried to stop them from moving towards the Srinagar office of UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan.
Chairman of the hardliner faction of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who led one of the protests in Srinagar after Friday prayers has called for a shutdown strike on Saturday against 'Israeli aggresion' in Lebanon.
Other groups including the Communist party of India, Hindu Welfare Society, JKLF, and Dukhtarane Millat have supported the call for shutdown and appealed for a complete strike.
The moderate faction of All Parties Hurriyat Conference has also denounced the attacks on Lebanon.
"It is our duty to raise our voices against oppression" Geelani said and criticised the US and west for backing Israel in 'its aggression on innocent people'.
Earlier on Thursday The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) described the Israeli attack on Lebanon as 'barbaric and inhuman'.
A resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir unit of CPI-M said "US-Israel aggression is phenomenal to disturb and destroy the stability of independent nations and to capture their resources through these imperial designs."
